IMPORTANT UPDATE Last night (April 21, 2010) in the House of Commons, Bloc Quebecois Member of Parliament Francine Lalonde’s Private Members Bill, which intended to change the Criminal Code to legalize euthanasia and assisted suicide, was DEFEATED in a vote of 59 (in favour of the bill) to 228 (against the bill). Members of the Bloc and some Members of the Liberal Party voted in favour of the bill. I am pleased with the decisive tone of this vote. It is important to reiterate that this was NOT a Government bill, but rather a Private Member’s Bill. |
