July 27, 2010 Flin Flon, Manitoba The Governments of Canada and Manitoba will invest more than $1.7 million to support the development and delivery of a mining equipment training program at the Northern Manitoba Mining Academy in Flin Flon. Funding under the Canada-Manitoba Western Economic Partnership Agreement (WEPA) will be used to purchase two state-of-the-art training simulators that will enable miners to learn how to operate underground mining equipment, undertake proper safety measures and cope with an underground emergency situation. “Providing more than 5,400 jobs as well as spinoff employment for suppliers, contractors and exploration companies and others, mining is the bedrock of Manitoba’s northern economy,” said Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger. “The academy and these new mining simulators strengthen the mining sectors as a major resource to strengthen community and industry partnerships and allow northern residents train close to home for high-wage, high-skilled jobs.” |

July 19, 2010 Farnborough, United Kingdom The Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, is travelling to the Farnborough International Airshow (FIA) this week to demonstrate the Government of Canada’s continued support for Western Canada’s aerospace and defence sector and to meet with industry leaders Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) provided funding towards the Aerospace Industry Association of British Columbia (AIABC) on behalf of the Canada West Aerospace and Defence Industries Association, for their participation at the Canadian Pavilion at the Farnborough International Airshow, one of the world’s largest international trade shows for aerospace equipment and technology. “The Farnborough International Airshow is a great venue to promote Western Canada’s competitive edge and ensure that our companies have the tools they need to succeed in today’s competitive global environment,” said Minister Yelich. “Our government is proud to support this sector, which strengthens our economy and creates jobs and opportunities in our communities.” |
